| EXCERPT FROM BOOK: IN MYSTIC DARKNESS Copyrighted 2005 by Jean Elizabeth Ward My old mama awoke, And said, come here child, I want to tell you something really wild. I saw Elvis a while ago in my dreams; He said he's just fine, and it seems He had a golden halo around his head, And behind him were silver laced wings. God knew he did things wrong, but most good, That's why he's earned that Sainthood, Just like his own mama knew he would. He's working for God in songs they play; Since he's gone they show people the way To thinking right thoughts, and seeing Them through some really bad times, 'till They listen to Elvis chime old songs Like only that man, Elvis could; That's why he's earned that Sainthood, Just like your old mama dreamed he would. Now, my child I'm going back to sleep, Keep that cassette player on, 'cause his songs Will keep me dreaming when I'm gone. IN MYSTIC DARKNESS the clouds roll on, Streaming beyond, beyond, and beyond. In cryptic darkness the moon moves on, Stars burn as the Heavens crash; The earth escapes, alas, alas Into a space of silent dust, Thus ending all of us, But my mama, well -- she will fuss If she can-not listen to Elvis. |

THY SON SHALL SHINE Thy son shall shine As he shines now, and theretofore; And, having done that, Thou hast done, I fear no more -- Excerpt from Poem A by John Donne |
| EXCERPT FROM BOOK: PA'S FAINTEST SMILE Languishing in late spring On an early May night, Stretchin 'til the day is done In my own delight. Idiotic things have come and gone And done . . . been forgotten, As the fish 'round me' head to tail . . . lay there a' rottin'. . . . Fishin' was the good thing; 'Twas fun for one and all, Then the fish ... I must gut; The large and the small. Tho' Daddy told me "Twas a manly thing; A think I'd like to do." I never learned to enjoy -- And always felt the fool. And so I say, My stomach aches, I must lie down a while. Daddy says, "Oh, go ahead." And smiles his faintest smile. ~~~~~~~ MODERN JAPANESE SENRYU POEM Christmas Became a bang After Lisa Marie came! All contents Copyrighted 2005 by Jean Elizabeth Ward |
