BOOK DESCRIPTION

Poetry from my Garden Collection,
With poems about Seabrook, Texas,
And the surrounding area near
Galveston Bay,
In Harris County, Texas.

EXCERPT

Some people toss stones into the sea,
I toss in words;
Composed and called poetry.

The great sea blesses me,
And sends me one poem a day;
Most of them are okay,

Now you see why
I have so many here,
The great sea, She really cares.

POEM FROM THE BOOK

I WRITE ABOUT IT ALL

I write about people slightly askew,
So you see I write about me,
And I write about you.

I watch people and things they do;
I study me and I study you.

I walk in the mist of Seabrook,
Not much at all;
Kinda like a Jane Goodall,
And I wonder –
Just like Jane Goodall,
What can we do
To preserve it all;
The uniqueness and fun,
And love of life,
And it – all?

So I try
By writing about it all.

THE SPIRIT

The Spirit, it is said
Lives in Seabrook,
Down below 146;
If ya’ wanna’ go
Just make a left
At Nasa Rd 1
Or a right,
Either way
Better stop,
As there are
Seabrook Cops
On every corner
And more, but
The ground is
Alive with
Excitement
Galore;
There I may be
Found just writing
Down the happenings
Round old Seabrook,
Texas; well of course,
The world knows that;
And facts are still facts!

MAAS NURSERY

Just
Three
Blocks
From my
Home onto
Todville Road,
Then I make a left.
Before I get to El Jardin
I make a right and then left
Into Maas Nurseries -- Parking lot.
Before I enter I must look at the roses,
And all the other delightful plants out in front;
Oh, my I must remember, not to buy, not to buy.
Roses and then more roses, trees and more trees,
Gifts and enough greenery to improve my scenery;
Magnificent things to plant; autumn, summer,
Or spring, as my mind springs into action
Of that which my body cannot endure.
PLEASURE, PURE PLEASURE
AT MAAS NURSERY TODAY

THE SEABROOK LIBRARY

The Seabrook Library has a tolerant crew
With dedicated jobs to do, and do they do,
For they are always busy,
But still they find time for me.

A secret place -- with secret sins;
Second hand books for fifty cents and then
I spend not more than a dollar or more;

Last week I found, what a treasure hunter
Would want, and for me it was more;
A 1941 first edition Carl Sandburg,
Edition 4 of Abraham Lincoln, The War Years.
Doesn't sound like much?

Well it was to me,
As my soul simply soared free;
Lincoln memorabilia,
And then I wonder to my 500 poems
About Mary Todd Lincoln,
And wonder if I will ever have the time
To organize, edit, and publish?
Oh, my; life certainly does pass by fast,
Is it the world, or is it me?

A PLACE CALLED SEABROOK

I live in a place called Seabrook;
Not known by one and all.
A simple place called Seabrook.

A hole in the wall;
My little home,
But it keeps me cool,
And today I am warm,
And peaceful and free of harm.

I'm not as far in life
As I once thought I would be,
But my worries fade away
Like the waves of the sea --
As I walk the streets
Of this unpretentious place,
And wonder why
It wasn't named Grace?
